The 59TP6C 080V21–20 is the 80,000 BTU/h, 21-inch-wide Performance 96: 52,000 BTU/h on low fire, 78,000 BTU/h output on high, 96.7% AFUE upflow, with a 1 HP variable-speed ECM blower that can serve up to 5 tons of cooling. It suits larger detached homes and houses with a big air conditioner or heat pump on the same ducts.

This is the highest-efficiency size in the family at 96.7% AFUE upflow, tied with the 120,000 BTU/h unit. Low fire is 52,000 BTU/h input and 51,000 BTU/h output; high fire is 80,000 BTU/h input and 78,000 BTU/h output. The 1 HP blower moves 1,360 CFM in high heat and up to 2,110 CFM for cooling, which is why this width is chosen when a 4- to 5-ton coil sits on top.
The 21-inch cabinet needs a wider return-air opening and more floor space than the 17.5-inch 080V17–16 that shares the same gas inputs. In a tight Burnaby mechanical closet the narrower sibling may fit where this one does not; the trade-off is less cooling airflow and 96.2% rather than 96.7% AFUE.
An 80,000 BTU/h furnace is oversized for many newer or well-insulated homes in the Lower Mainland, where design heat loss is often well under 50,000 BTU/h. Carrier's product data warns that excessive oversizing can shorten furnace and vent life. Choose this size from a heat-loss calculation and the cooling airflow requirement, not from the size of the furnace being replaced.

Should I replace my old 100,000 BTU/h furnace with this 80,000 BTU/h model?
Possibly, but do not size by the old unit. Older furnaces were routinely oversized and modern 95%+ furnaces deliver more of their input as heat. A heat-loss calculation decides; BC Wide performs one during the assessment.
Why is the AFUE 96.7% and not 95% or 97%?
96.7% is the certified upflow figure for this specific size in Carrier's product data. Downflow and horizontal installations of the same furnace are certified at 95.0%.
Does the 080V21–20 need a 20-amp circuit?
Carrier lists a maximum fuse or breaker size of 20 A and a 12 AWG minimum wire size by default for this size. An optional low-amp kit changes those figures; the electrician confirms on site.
