Carrier 59SP6B status code 45: control failure
Major code 45 is the control's own failure reporting. Minor 45.1 is a flame-circuit, memory-mismatch or sequence error; minor 45.2 means the gas-valve relay circuit will not close when commanded; minor 45.3 is an EEPROM memory issue. The label adds: for code 45, cycle power; if code 45 repeats, replace the control.

A code is a condition, not a diagnosis
These sub-codes point at the control board, but the cause can be upstream: a poor 24 V supply, a failing accessory back-feeding the control, or wiring faults. Safe things to look at first
- Read the full code on the control display through the door, including any minor digit (for example 33.2), and write it down.
- Look, without touching, for obvious conditions you can report: snow or ice at the vent terminations, water on the floor, a loaded filter, a condensate pump that is full or off.
- Note whether the furnace still heats at all, and how long it runs before the code returns.
- Follow the service label's instruction: cycle power once (off, wait, on) and see whether 45 clears.
- Note whether the fault returns immediately or only under load, and any recent electrical work.
Do not
- Do not bypass or jumper the door switch, limit switches, rollout switches or pressure switches.
- Do not open the burner compartment, disconnect tubing, or adjust the gas valve or gas pressure.
- Do not keep cycling power to force the furnace to relight; repeated resets hide the fault and can allow unburned gas to build up after ignition failures. If the code returns, stop and call.

- A technician verifies the 24 V supply, ground and accessory wiring, follows the label instruction to cycle power once, and replaces the control with the correct part programmed from the rating plate if the code repeats.

Internal control faults can be momentary, which is why the label says to cycle power and watch. If it does not repeat, note it; if it repeats, the control needs replacement.
Does a 45 code mean the whole control board is dead?
Not necessarily. 45.2 (gas-valve relay) and the others can also trace to supply or wiring faults. The technician tests the supply and accessories before replacing the board.
