Short answer
The Performance 96 (59TP6C 080V21–20) and the Infinity 96 (59TN6B 080C21–20) are both two-stage 80,000 BTU/h condensing furnaces from Carrier, but they are different machines underneath: the Performance is non-communicating with a constant-torque blower, while the Infinity is a communicating furnace with a constant-airflow blower designed to run with an Infinity Control and Infinity cooling. Both certify around 96.7% AFUE; the choice is about system architecture, not heating output.

Heating is nearly a tie. The Performance 59TP6C delivers 78,000 BTU/h on high fire and 51,000 BTU/h on low from the same 80,000/52,000 BTU/h inputs as the Infinity 59TN6B (which delivers 78,000/51,000). Certified AFUE is 96.7% for the Performance and 96.7% upflow/horizontal for the Infinity, with 95.0% downflow on both.
The blower is the real difference. The Performance uses a variable 25-speed constant-torque ECM: quiet and efficient, with installer-selected speeds, but no airflow feedback. The Infinity uses a communicating constant-airflow (VCA) ECM that measures and holds the airflow the system requests, which matters when filters load or dampers move, and which requires the Infinity communicating system to show its value.
System integration separates the tiers: the Infinity is built for an Infinity Control, Infinity air conditioner or heat pump and Infinity zoning, with diagnostics through the communicating system. The Performance runs on standard 24 V thermostat connections with the 3-digit display and InteliSense option. For a plain furnace replacement on existing wiring, the Performance is the simpler fit; for a whole communicating system, the Infinity is the one that belongs in it.
Cabinets are close: both 21 inches wide, 35 inches tall; the Infinity cabinet is 30 inches deep versus 29.5 inches for the Performance, and the Infinity ships with a factory 20-inch media cabinet. Neither number above is a recommendation of size; the heat-loss calculation decides capacity.

Is the Infinity 96 worth the price difference?
That depends on the system. The Infinity earns its premium inside a communicating Infinity system with Infinity cooling, zoning and humidity features. For a furnace-only replacement with a standard thermostat, the Performance delivers nearly identical heating at lower cost.
Are these furnaces the same efficiency?
Effectively yes: Carrier certifies the Performance 59TP6C 080V21–20 at 96.7% AFUE upflow and the Infinity 59TN6B 080C21–20 at 96.7% upflow and horizontal, both 95.0% downflow.
