Carrier 59TP7A status code 46.1: momentary loss of power
Status code 46.1 records that the control saw its power drop and return. The furnace control keeps the last seven faults in memory for 72 hours of powered operation, so a brief interruption such as a blip on the electrical service is logged as 46.1.

A code is a condition, not a diagnosis
46.1 is a record of an event, not a fault in the furnace. It matters mainly when it repeats often, which points at the electrical supply: a loose connection, a failing breaker or disconnect, or neighbourhood power dips. The stored fault history distinguishes a one-time blip from a pattern.

Documented for Carrier 59TP7A furnaces (all nine sizes) in installation instructions 59TP7A-01SI REV A, edition 06/23. It is the same control behaviour that runs the 90-second blower-only recovery (code 12.1) when the thermostat is calling at power-up.

Safe things to look at first
- Read the full code on the control display through the door, including any minor digit (for example 33.2), and write it down.
- Look, without touching, for obvious conditions you can report: snow or ice at the vent terminations, water on the floor, a loaded filter, a condensate pump that is full or off.
- Note whether the furnace still heats at all, and how long it runs before the code returns.
- Note whether the code appears after known power blips or outages.
- If the furnace restarts and heats normally, nothing further is needed for a single occurrence.
Do not
- Do not bypass or jumper the door switch, limit switches, rollout switches or pressure switches.
- Do not open the burner compartment, disconnect tubing, or adjust the gas valve or gas pressure.
- Do not keep cycling power to force the furnace to relight; repeated resets hide the fault and can allow unburned gas to build up after ignition failures. If the code returns, stop and call.

My furnace shows 46.1 after a power outage. Is it damaged?
No. It logged that the power dropped and returned, which is exactly what happened. If it heats normally through a cycle, no repair is needed.
Why does 46.1 keep appearing every week?
Repeated power events usually come from the supply side: a loose connection, an overloaded or failing breaker, or utility dips. Have the supply checked before blaming the furnace.
