This is the top of the Comfort 96 range and one of the largest residential condensing furnaces Carrier sells: 135,000 BTU/h of output at full fire, needing a mechanical room, a gas line and a duct system built for it. Carrier certifies it at 95.0% AFUE upflow and 95% downflow, the minimum-efficiency point of the family, with the widest certified temperature rise range (45 to 75 °F).
Seven burners and a 1 HP MCT ECM blower (up to 2,230 CFM for cooling) make this a genuine whole-house appliance for very large houses. Its 24.5-inch cabinet matches the 120,000 BTU/h size, so the two often compete for the same mechanical room; the choice is the heat-loss calculation's.
Homes that calculate to 140,000 BTU/h input are rare in the Lower Mainland, and the number should be treated with extra scrutiny: it usually reflects a large, poorly insulated envelope, a high ceiling space, or a duct system designed around an even bigger old furnace.
