Carrier builds the Comfort 96 from 26,000 to 140,000 BTU/h, and this is the bottom of that range: a single-stage burner at 26,000 BTU/h input delivering 25,000 BTU/h, certified at 96.0% AFUE upflow and 95% downflow. Its certified temperature rise range of 25 to 55 °F is the narrowest in the family, a reminder that it needs ducts matched to a small airflow (620 CFM at rated static pressure).

Carrier's own sizing note for the family warns that none of the furnace sizes may be used where the heating load is very low, and that excessive oversizing can cause premature failure, vent freezing and discomfort. The 026 exists for the narrow band of houses whose heat-loss calculation genuinely lands below what a 40,000 BTU/h input furnace can serve without short-cycling.

Unlike the larger Comfort 96 sizes, the 026,000 BTU/h model can use two-pipe venting with outside air for combustion but is not classed as direct-vent in Carrier's product data. It condenses like every other size, so it needs plastic venting and a condensate drain, and its 14.2-inch cabinet is the narrowest in the family.
