Carrier 59TP6C status code 45: control failure
Major code 45 is the control's own failure reporting. Minor 45.1 is a general internal control error; 45.2 means the control's gas-valve relay circuit is not closing when commanded; 45.3 is a memory (EEPROM) error; 45.4 is loss of communication between the control's internal circuits.

A code is a condition, not a diagnosis
These sub-codes point at the control board itself, but the cause can be upstream: a poor 24 V supply, a failing accessory back-feeding the control, or wiring faults. The service label's own guidance is to cycle power once and replace the control if the code repeats. Electrical supply and ground are verified before the board is condemned.

Documented for Carrier 59TP6C furnaces (all nine sizes) in installation instructions 59TP6C-01SI REV A, edition 06/23. The service label adds: for code 45, cycle power; if code 45 repeats, replace the control.

Safe things to look at first
- Read the full code on the control display through the door, including any minor digit (for example 33.2), and write it down.
- Look, without touching, for obvious conditions you can report: snow or ice at the vent terminations, water on the floor, a loaded filter, a condensate pump that is full or off.
- Note whether the furnace still heats at all, and how long it runs before the code returns.
- Follow the service label's instruction: cycle power once (off, wait, on) and see whether 45 clears.
- Note whether the fault returns immediately or only under load, and any recent electrical work.
Do not
- Do not bypass or jumper the door switch, limit switches, rollout switches or pressure switches.
- Do not open the burner compartment, disconnect tubing, or adjust the gas valve or gas pressure.
- Do not keep cycling power to force the furnace to relight; repeated resets hide the fault and can allow unburned gas to build up after ignition failures. If the code returns, stop and call.

What a technician does
- A technician verifies the 24 V supply, ground and accessory wiring, then follows the label instruction to cycle power once.
- If the code repeats, the control is replaced with the correct part and programmed with the model program number from the rating plate.

Internal communication faults can be momentary, which is why the label says to cycle power and watch. If it does not repeat, note it; if it repeats, the control needs replacement.
Does a 45 code mean the whole control board is dead?
Not necessarily. 45.2 (gas-valve relay) and 45.1 can also trace to supply or wiring faults. The technician tests the supply and accessories before replacing the board.
