Carrier Performance 96 (59TP6A)
The 59TP6A is the first-generation Performance 96 two-stage condensing furnace (Series 1, 2014), sold in eight sizes from 40,000 to 120,000 BTU/h input with a variable-speed ECM blower. It was superseded by the 59TP6B in 2019 and then the 59TP6C, and is documented here for repair and parts context because thousands remain in service across Canada.

Carrier launched the 59TP6A in 2014 as the Performance tier's two-stage condensing furnace, marketed as up to 96.5% AFUE. Its full ordering numbers carry the E designator (for example 59TP6A040E141110 and 59TP6A120E241122), which is how it differs from later generations: a 59TP6A furnace is identified by the sixth character A on the rating plate.
The family introduced the Comfort Heat adaptive two-stage control, a variable-speed ECM blower, two-speed inducer and the four-way multipoise cabinet that carried into the later generations, with SmartEvap and ComfortFan features driven by a compatible thermostat. Its control centre differs from the 59TP6B and 59TP6C, so status codes and set-up switches must be read from this generation's own manual, not from newer documentation.
For repair context: a furnace whose rating plate reads 59TP6A is a 2014-2019-era unit. Parts such as the control, blower motor, ignitor and pressure switches are generation-specific, and this page deliberately keeps its documentation separate from the 59TP6B and 59TP6C pages on this site.

Questions people ask
How do I know if my furnace is a 59TP6A?
Read the full model number on the rating plate inside the blower door. The sixth character is the series letter: A means this 2014 generation. Status codes and parts differ from the B and C generations.
Is the 59TP6A still supported with parts?
It is discontinued, and Carrier hosts its product data and installation manual for reference. Parts availability is confirmed by the part number at the time of service; many components are still available through distributors.
What replaced the 59TP6A?
Carrier replaced it with the 59TP6B (2019) and then the current 59TP6C, which share the Performance 96 marketing name but are different generations with different controls.
