Modern furnaces store fault history and report status codes, but a code is a condition, not a failed part. A pressure-switch code can come from venting, condensate, the inducer or the switch; an ignition code from gas supply, the ignitor or flame sensing. Diagnostics is the testing that separates those causes before any part is ordered.
The diagnostic visit reads the control's stored faults, tests through a live heating cycle where safe, measures gas supply and manifold behaviour, flame signal, temperature rise and static pressure, and inspects venting, condensate and combustion. Combustion analysis confirms the furnace is burning cleanly before it is left running.
You receive the findings in plain language: what the furnace is doing, what the testing showed, and what the repair would cost. Where the furnace is beyond economical repair, the same visit produces the replacement case with numbers.
Carrier specifics
Carrier sells residential gas furnaces in Canada through its Canadian site and dealer network, in three tiers: Comfort, Performance and Infinity. Furnaces range from single-stage models to modulating units with variable-speed blowers, and all current sizes are design certified in Canada.
BC Wide lists Carrier among the brands it works on. Factory-authorized dealer status for Carrier has not been confirmed and is not claimed here.

Permits: Routine appliance servicing does not normally require a gas permit; work that alters the gas piping (new runs, relocated connections) does. The technician confirms per job.
When not to DIY
- Never open the burner compartment or work on gas, combustion or venting components yourself
- Gas piping work requires a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor and the applicable permit
- If you smell gas, leave the building and call FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911 or 911 before anything else

Why can't you tell me the problem over the phone from the code?
A code identifies the condition the control saw, and the same code has several causes. The stored history narrows it; instrumented testing confirms it. That is what the diagnostic visit is for.
What does a diagnostic cost?
BC Wide does not publish a diagnostic fee on this site; the fee, if any, is confirmed when you call. It is applied to the repair when one proceeds, subject to the terms BC Wide confirms.
How is a diagnostic different from a repair visit?
A repair visit fixes a confirmed fault; a diagnostic visit starts from an unexplained symptom. Many repair visits begin with diagnostics, which is why this site describes the testing before the part replacement.
