Carrier Furnace Venting
BC Wide plans and installs gas-furnace venting and combustion air: pipe material and diameter, total equivalent length, route and slope, termination location and clearances, and condensate handling in the vent path. Every installation is checked against the manufacturer's venting tables and the code. This page covers Carrier furnaces specifically.

Every condensing furnace sold in Canada vents through sealed plastic pipe, and the rules are precise: pipe size and material per the manufacturer's tables, maximum total equivalent length after every elbow, slope back to the furnace so condensate drains, clearance to windows and openings at the termination, and the correct separation between intake and exhaust for two-pipe installations.
The venting work covers the route through the house: where the pipes run, how they penetrate walls and roofs, what the termination looks like from outside, and how the vent condensate drains. In a retrofit, the route often has to thread through finished space, which is where the design matters as much as the pipe.
Code and manufacturer requirements are the two references for every venting job: the installation instructions for the specific furnace (this site links them from every model page) and the gas code provisions that apply in BC. Venting work is done under the gas permit for the installation.
Carrier specifics
Carrier sells residential gas furnaces in Canada through its Canadian site and dealer network, in three tiers: Comfort, Performance and Infinity. Furnaces range from single-stage models to modulating units with variable-speed blowers, and all current sizes are design certified in Canada.
BC Wide lists Carrier among the brands it works on. Factory-authorized dealer status for Carrier has not been confirmed and is not claimed here.

What is included
- Vent design: size, total equivalent length, route and slope
- Pipe, fittings, terminations and combustion-air intake installation
- Condensate handling for the vent path
- Permit, inspection and commissioning of the vented appliance
What is not included
- Chimney liner work for other appliances, unless quoted
- Structural changes for the vent route, unless quoted
Permits: Yes for the gas work — a gas permit from Technical Safety BC or, in the six municipalities with their own systems, from the municipality. BC Wide pulls it.
When not to DIY
- Never modify furnace venting yourself; it is part of the certified gas appliance installation and affects combustion safety
How it works
Design the route
Size, length and termination location are worked out for the furnace model.
Install
Piping, supports and terminations are installed to the design.
Verify
The installed vent is measured against the manufacturer's maximum lengths.
Commission
The furnace runs through cycles with combustion verified.
Questions people ask
Can I extend my furnace vent myself?
Venting is part of the gas appliance's certified installation. Changing it without following the manufacturer's tables and the permit rules can starve or pressurize combustion. BC Wide designs and installs venting under the gas permit.
Why does my venting freeze in cold weather?
Condensate freezing in a low spot or at the termination is usually a slope, length or termination problem. The fix is found by checking the installation against the manufacturer's venting rules.
How close can the vent termination be to my neighbour's window?
Clearances are set by the furnace manufacturer's instructions and the gas code as adopted in BC. The exact distances are confirmed on site and recorded with the permit.
