Carrier Furnace Commissioning

BC Wide commissions every furnace it installs: gas pressure and input rate, combustion analysis, temperature rise against the certified range, airflow and blower set-up, safety-switch verification and a full cycle test, all documented. Commissioning is also offered as a check on work done by others. This page covers Carrier furnaces specifically.

An installation is not finished when the furnace lights. Commissioning proves it: manifold and inlet gas pressure within the manufacturer's figures, input rate confirmed, combustion analyzed, temperature rise inside the certified range on the rating plate, airflow and blower speeds set for the duct system, and every safety control verified through real operation.

Manufacturer instructions used across this site require these checks at start-up: purge and leak-check the gas line, verify manifold pressure, clock the gas rate, measure temperature rise and confirm operation. Commissioning is the documented performance of those steps, and it is part of every BC Wide installation.

For homeowners with a furnace installed by someone else, commissioning provides an independent verification: if the numbers are outside the manufacturer's range, the report says so and the corrections are quoted.

Carrier specifics

Carrier sells residential gas furnaces in Canada through its Canadian site and dealer network, in three tiers: Comfort, Performance and Infinity. Furnaces range from single-stage models to modulating units with variable-speed blowers, and all current sizes are design certified in Canada.

BC Wide lists Carrier among the brands it works on. Factory-authorized dealer status for Carrier has not been confirmed and is not claimed here.

What is included

  • Gas-pressure and input-rate verification against the rating plate
  • Combustion analysis and carbon-monoxide check
  • Temperature-rise and airflow verification inside the certified range
  • Safety-switch and full-cycle testing, with a written commissioning record

What is not included

  • Corrections to an installation by others (quoted from the findings)
  • Permit close-out where the permit holder is another contractor

Permits: Yes for the gas work — a gas permit from Technical Safety BC or, in the six municipalities with their own systems, from the municipality. BC Wide pulls it.

When not to DIY

  • Commissioning verifies another party's work; corrections to a gas installation are licensed-contractor work

How it works

  1. Prepare

Gas, electrical and venting are verified before firing.

  2. Fire and measure

The furnace runs through its cycles with combustion and airflow instruments.

  3. Adjust

Blower speeds and set-up are adjusted to bring the numbers into range.

  4. Document

A commissioning record is provided with the measured values.

Questions people ask

Is commissioning included in my installation?

Yes. Every furnace BC Wide installs is commissioned and documented as part of the scope. It is also offered separately to verify installations by others.

Why does temperature rise matter?

The rating plate states a certified temperature rise range. Outside it, the furnace either overheats (high rise) or condenses in the heat exchanger (low rise), both of which shorten its life. Commissioning proves the installed system is inside the range.

Who does the work

BC Wide states its work is done by TSBC-licensed gas fitters and Red Seal technicians. Source
