Rheem Heat-Loss Assessment
A BC Wide heat-loss assessment calculates your house's design heat loss room by room from construction, insulation, windows, air leakage and orientation, and uses it to select the right furnace capacity. It is the step that prevents both oversized short-cycling furnaces and undersized ones. This page covers Rheem furnaces specifically.
The calculation that decides furnace size: heat loss, not square footage

The size of a furnace is decided by how fast the house loses heat on the coldest design day, calculated from the actual construction: wall and ceiling insulation, window type and area, air leakage, foundation and orientation. Square-footage rules of thumb overshoot badly, especially in upgraded houses, and manufacturer product data warns that excessive oversizing can shorten furnace and vent life.
Carrier's product data, used across this site as an example, states the standard explicitly: size the furnace to provide 100 percent of the design heating load plus any margin from the model size increments, using an accepted engineering method, and never use a size where the heating load is 20,000 BTU/h or lower.
The assessment also looks at what the ducts can actually deliver. A furnace that needs 1,400 CFM on high fire will trip its limits on ducts that can only pass 900, so static pressure is part of the assessment, not an afterthought.
Rheem specifics
Rheem is one of the furnace brands BC Wide Heating & Air Conditioning lists among the brands it services in Greater Vancouver. This hub is the entry point for Rheem gas-furnace documentation on this site; series, model and fault-code records are verified from manufacturer literature and added as they are completed, so this page grows over time.
BC Wide lists Rheem among the brands it works on. Factory-authorized dealer status for Rheem has not been confirmed and is not claimed here.

What is included
- Room-by-room heat-loss calculation from the house's actual construction
- Design-day temperature basis appropriate to the Lower Mainland location
- Duct static-pressure measurement and airflow review
- A written result: design heat loss in BTU/h and the furnace size range that fits it
What is not included
- Certified energy audits for rebate programs (a different process)
- Detailed duct redesign drawings, unless quoted
Permits: None for this service.
How it works
House measurements
Rooms, walls, windows, ceilings, foundation and orientation are measured and noted.
Calculation
Insulation, glazing and air-leakage values are applied room by room.
Duct check
Static pressure and register/return locations are measured.
The result
You receive the calculated heat loss and the furnace capacity it supports.
Questions people ask
How long does a heat-loss assessment take?
Typically one visit of one to two hours for a house, depending on size and access. The calculation itself follows in the office.
Is a heat-loss assessment the same as an energy audit?
No. A heat-loss assessment sizes the furnace. A certified energy audit (for example for the Canada Greener Homes programs) is a separate, more detailed process with its own qualification rules.
My contractor sized the furnace 'like for like'. Is that wrong?
Like-for-like is not a sizing method. Older furnaces were routinely oversized, and a 95%+ furnace delivers more heat per BTU of input. The heat-loss calculation is the accepted basis; ask any contractor for it.
