A tune-up is the pre-season start-up check: confirm the furnace lights cleanly on the first try, measure flame signal and temperature rise, check the filter and blower, and verify that the condensate drains. It catches the problems that appear after a summer of sitting idle, like a stuck condensate trap or a flame sensor that has fouled just enough to cause intermittent lockouts.
If your furnace has not had a full annual maintenance in the past year, book that instead. Where a tune-up finds something more serious, the technician explains it and quotes any repair separately.

Permits: Routine appliance servicing does not normally require a gas permit; work that alters the gas piping (new runs, relocated connections) does. The technician confirms per job.
When not to DIY
- Never open the burner compartment or work on gas, combustion or venting components yourself
- Gas piping work requires a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor and the applicable permit

What is the difference between a tune-up and maintenance?
A tune-up is a seasonal start-up check. Annual maintenance goes deeper: combustion analysis, condensate trap cleaning, heat-exchanger and burner inspection, and a review of stored fault codes.
Can a tune-up fix a furnace that is not working?
No. A furnace that has already failed needs a repair visit, which starts with diagnosis.
