Frigidaire Condensate Management

BC Wide installs and services condensate systems for condensing furnaces: trap orientation per the installation position, drain routing and slope, condensate pumps where there is no gravity drain, and freeze protection where the drain runs through cold space. This page covers Frigidaire furnaces specifically.

Condensate done right: drains, traps, pumps and winterization

A condensing furnace makes litres of mildly acidic water a day in cold weather, and the entire appliance depends on that water leaving continuously. The trap is part of the flue-gas seal, the drain must fall to its termination or pump, and anything that blocks or freezes the path stops the furnace through its pressure-switch or drain safeties.

Installation work follows the manufacturer's trap and drain instructions for the specific furnace and its mounting position (this site's model pages link those instructions). Service work covers blocked traps, flooded collector boxes, failed condensate pumps and drains that freeze or back up.

Winterization is part of the service story: drains through unheated space and exterior terminations need the protection the manufacturer specifies, which Carrier, for example, documents as a propylene-glycol procedure for installations where the drain can freeze.

Frigidaire specifics

Frigidaire is one of the furnace brands BC Wide Heating & Air Conditioning lists among the brands it services in Greater Vancouver. This hub is the entry point for Frigidaire gas-furnace documentation on this site; series, model and fault-code records are verified from manufacturer literature and added as they are completed, so this page grows over time.

BC Wide lists Frigidaire among the brands it works on. Factory-authorized dealer status for Frigidaire has not been confirmed and is not claimed here.

What is included

  • Condensate trap installation and orientation for the furnace position
  • Drain routing, slope and termination or condensate pump installation
  • Trap, drain and collector-box cleaning at service visits
  • Freeze-protection and winterization where the installation needs it

What is not included

  • Plumbing connections to sanitary drains beyond the furnace drain, unless quoted
  • Condensate neutralizers, where local rules require them, quoted separately

Permits: None for trap and drain service; new connections to sanitary drains may require a plumbing permit, confirmed on site

When not to DIY

  • The condensate trap is part of the flue-gas seal; never open it on a running furnace

How it works

  1. Check the path

Trap orientation, drain slope, pump and termination are reviewed.

  2. Install or clean

Trap, drain or pump work is done per the manufacturer's instructions.

  3. Verify

The furnace runs a full cycle and the water path is confirmed end to end.

Questions people ask

Why is water around my furnace?

The condensate path is blocked, frozen or disconnected: a clogged trap, a sagging drain, a failed pump or a frozen termination. Turn off a flooding pump, mop up, and call; the furnace may stop on its own with a pressure-switch code.

Can I clean the condensate trap myself?

The trap is part of the flue-gas seal on a gas appliance. Cleaning it is a technician's job; opening it on a running furnace is not safe.

Is condensate dangerous?

It is mildly acidic, so it can damage flooring and rust equipment, but it is not a gas or CO hazard by itself. The hazard is running a furnace whose trap is not sealing, which is why the repair is left to a technician.
